Is being a Christian and a Mason inconsistent?

On June 15-17, 1993 the Southern Baptist Convention dealt with the issue of Freemasonry being compatible with the teachings of the Southern Baptist Church. The Home Missions Board presented a report which was researched by Gary Leazer and his committee. The report of the HMB found the teachings of Freemasonry to be generally compatible with the teachings of the SBC and Christianity in general. The Convention acknowledged the many charitable works of the Masons and also recognized that many members of the Southern Baptist Church have been or are presently involved in Freemasonry. Dr. Leazer was asked to change his report to make it appear that Freemasonry was much more sinister than the report indicated. He refused to sign off on the changes and was soon removed from his position on the HMB.

Several deletions, changes and additions were made to Gary Leazer’s study after if was submitted to Mr. Lewis, president of the Home Mission Board in 1993.  These are covered in “Fundamentalism and Freemasonry” P. 187.

The Convention finally came to the conclusion that "many tenets and teachings of Freemasonry are not compatible with Christianity or Southern Baptist doctrine." I would like to examine each one of these "supposed" inconsistencies to see how they apply not only to Southern Baptist doctrine, but to the beliefs of most "mainline" churches.  They also stated that it was not the job of this committee to make the final decision, but it should be left up to each Mason individually if he wants to be a member of this organization.
